Community is a project begun as a way of learning my surroundings, a way of meeting those people and places with whom I share an identity by simply being in the same place at the same time. It is a jumpstart for another project called Mumble Street Stories.
This is an ongoing project of observations made for myself. It is assisted reality and it is not an intent to record a likeness as traditional portraiture would dictate. The images are pins in my map, references to, reminders to not forget that right now is right here.
A few years ago I was out on a figure shoot with a large group of photographers. It was during this afternoon that I began to feel like the process was bigger than the image, like the images were more of a hunt than an arranged convenience. That afternoon certainly changed the way I see this part of the medium as well as the process of making images as a whole. Whether this is akin to "the male gaze" or something darker I can't say. It's just what came to me over those two days and still lingers.
